Farewell from us – not the workshop – just us.
We first visited Lembongan in 2015, we loved the slower pace, fewer vehicles and yes, even less people on the islands. If you didn’t know someone living here, you knew someone who did.
We came and went for a few years before moving to live in the relative busy-ness of Jungut Batu where we cycled everywhere for several years.
We developed the workshop so that we could live and work while also enabling us to offer something new and different on the island. Something that was sustainable, created less waste and in its own small way, encouraged responsible tourism, and we’ve loved every moment of it.
In 2023 we were lucky enough to find a local house in the middle of the island in the midst of fields and trees, the closest neighbour a few hundred metres away.
While the workshops will continue on under new leadership and in a gorgeous new location, the changes on the island have been too much for us, and it is time for us to say farewell.
While there are many faces and hearts we will miss, we are grateful to be leaving behind the current construction and demolition. Watching countless trees cut down and fields concreted over has been deeply disheartening. We are also looking forward to enjoying time outdoors without the stench and health risks of burnt trash.
We sincerely hope the island finds a balance between supporting its people in prospering and thriving, and the influence of wealthy foreigners who appear intent on acquiring all of it for themselves. Of course we know the island will continue to flourish, simply in a different way.
Namaste
