Nyepi and Nyepi Laut
Did you know that Nyepi and Nyepi Laut are totally different days.
Nyepi is celebrated as a day of Silence in March (usually although it can fall in April) of each year across the 3 Nusas – Lembongan, Ceningan and Penida as well as Bali. It is a day of meditation, fasting and silence.
You may not leave your accommodation for any reason and Pecalang patrol the streets to enforce this. The airport is closed and all shops and restaurants are closed.
During Nyepi the power is turned off at 6am and turned back on the following morning – although on Bali there are many places nowadays who still keep electricity across the 3 Nusas there is generally no power.
While you cannot go out during Nyepi the run up is somewhat of a celebration with many ceremonies and the famed Ogoh Ogoh parades taking place

Nyepi Laut, or Silent Sea is only honoured on the 3 Nusas – Nusa Lembongan, Ceningan and Penida each October to thank the sea and oceans for the bounty they provide.
During Nyepi Laut there are no boats to and from Bali, no water activity of any kind including swimming, snorkelling, diving, surfing.
Walking along the beach is allowed but not walking in the water.
There will be ceremonies talking place during the day across the island.
Nyepi Laut 2024 will be held on 18th October, finding information on Nyepi Laut actual dates seems to be a lot harder than finding information about Nyepi dates but it is always 1 day after the 4th full moon (purnama kapat)
