Chemicals – this old chestnut
Listening to The Beauty Brains Podcast today they mentioned an article in MarieClaire which reminded me of a previous blog post of ours https://dapuralami.com/a-word-to-the-wise/ and also a page we used to include in our post workshop pdf – extract copied below. The MarieClaire article says many of the things we talked about in 2022 – still as true today as they were then
Chemicals are NOT bad. We get asked a lot if we use any chemicals in the workshop.
We sure do because everything is made up of chemicals, including you. Oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen these are just a few chemicals that make up your body
Because something is natural does not mean it is safe – ricin, arsenic and foxglove are a few of the many natural poisons that exist. Even water can be fatal in large quantities. The dose makes the poison. Botanicals can be a greater source of skin irritation than synthetic ingredients, which is why we recommend reading all available safety information and patch testing any new ingredient or product, naturally derived or not
While in the workshops we only use 100% natural ingredients, we happily use synthetically derived ingredients elsewhere. Science is marvellous and if through science we can create safe and effective ingredients or nature identical ingredients, we are happy to use them. There are some wonderful natural ingredients where sadly harvesting does more damage to the environment than good, so should we use those simply because they are natural? We think not
In the sessions we provide data sheets on the essential oils we offer. The ‘things to be aware of’ lists are by no means exhaustive. Anyone can be allergic to anything and if you are prone to allergies or skin reactions you will know the importance of being careful when trying new ingredients and products
Remember, all beauty is clean beauty
